Description

Traditional, respectful fishing and preservation for five generations.

Started by Catalan entrepreneur Jose Serrats in 1890, Conservas Serrats (known as ‘Serrats’) is up to it’s fifth generation of fish processing from the rich and delicate waters of the Bay of Biscay. Utilising French preservation techniques, Jose settled in Bermeo, Spain and processed seasonal catches from fishing charters off the Cantabrian coastline.
With strong demand from France, followed by South America, the business established itself and by 1920 introduced the hermetically sealed tin that anchovies are still packed in today.
Serrats has strong links with the local environmental and ecological councils and supports activities to create a sustainable future for the region, with a blue MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) license as a certified sustainable fishery. Try their range and experience the wonderful outcome of 5 generations of fish selection and processing from this incredible oceanic region.
